Ingredients for Popcorn Cupcakes:
Prepared cupcakes: The popcorn cupcakes recipe creation calls for 6 cupcakes, but you can really make as many as you need and adjust the other ingredients accordingly. For the cupcakes you can make your own from scratch or use a box mix to make them.
Cupcake liners: Red and white striped liners are the best because they resemble a popcorn box. You could also use regular cupcake liners and then wrap them with these cute Popcorn Cupcake wrappers.
Bag of miniature marshmallows: The mini marshmallows will be transformed into the popcorn that will top your cupcakes.
Vanilla frosting: You can make your own frosting or use your favorite store-bought brand of frosting. The frosting will be used to on top of each cupcake to help the popcorn pieces (made from marshmallows) to stick on top of the cupcake.
Yellow food coloring: The food coloring will help your marshmallow pieces look more like buttered popcorn.
Paintbrush: A food-grade paintbrush will be needed to brush the yellow food coloring onto the marshmallows.
Water: You will need water to dilute the food coloring.

Directions for making Popcorn Cupcakes:
Take scissors and cut a small slit about halfway through the side of one marshmallow. Then gently twist the marshmallow at the cut.
Next, cut another slit at the top of the marshmallow. It will split open and look like a piece of popped popcorn.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 with as many marshmallows that it will take to cover the number of cupcakes you are decorating.
Add about ½ cup water to a bowl and add 8-10 drops of yellow food coloring. Make sure the color is pretty dark, so it’ll show up on the marshmallow.
With the paintbrush, paint the yellow water (butter) on the marshmallow (popcorn). This does not have to be perfect, you don’t want to cover the whole marshmallow. Just give it a little butter coloring.
Frost each cupcake and place pieces of “popcorn” on the frosting.
Enjoy or store in an airtight container until you are ready to eat.
