Are you a tired and weary mom, and you don’t know where to begin?
A friend recently told me that she wished she was better prepared to be a mother. I thought she was referring to financially prepared, or maybe that the first pregnancy wasn’t “planned”, but she wasn’t talking about either of those.
She said:
I don’t remember anyone ever telling me how tired I would be as a mom. They didn’t tell me that there would be days when my child would make me feel worthless. They didn’t tell me that there would be days that would test me greater than any trial in my life had tested me before. If there was such a thing as battered mom syndrome, I think I may have it. I’m yelled at if the color of my child’s cup is wrong; if the temperature of their food isn’t perfect; and if they can’t find their favorite new socks. Tired and weary? You bet. I’m exhausted.
The amount of responsibility I carry is more than one could ever imagine! I don’t think our husbands have a clue what it is like to live inside our brains. To constantly be thinking about schedules, the grocery list, laundry, homeschooling, and mentally keeping track of what all of your children are doing at every hour of the day.
Matthew 11:28 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” I take delight in this verse but I’m equally afraid because if I get too much rest I will fall behind and then I’m just back at square one, times two.
We both laughed after her little rant, but I knew there was truth behind it. I think we all feel a little under-prepared or overwhelmed at times. We are weary at
the end of a hard day, and tired even from the time we wake up. There is refuge for all of this. God will give you rest if you ask for it. He will provide your every need to keep you from becoming weary. All you need to do is call on Him and trust that He has you covered! Because He does!
I remember a time when I was spent. I had so much to do with the kids for homeschooling, our church, managing the home, and working here on the blog, I was overwhelmed and exhausted. I called on God and started studying the verses I’m sharing with you today. He replied by giving me a couple of nights of going to bed early, and the peace to let go of a few extra responsibilities (mamas, sometimes we just have to give ourselves permission to let things go, let things slide).
Read these verses and pray over them the next time you are feeling overwhelmed and tired. Remember, God doesn’t desire for us to be so busy that we can’t have a relationship with him. If you are too busy to talk to God, stop what you’re doing and talk to Him now!
