Kids absolutely love celebrating Easter. From hunting for eggs full of candy to getting creative with egg decorating and enjoying afternoons of Easter crafting, there’s plenty of fun and excitement surrounding the Easter holiday. But, Easter isn’t just about these fun activities. If you want to make sure your family remembers the true meaning of Easter and focuses on Jesus Christ, you’ll adore this simple way to make your very own set of Resurrection Eggs. It’s a great way to teach your kids the real Easter story.
What are Resurrection Eggs?
Resurrection Eggs are a fun, hands-on, memorable way to share and retell the Easter story with your kids. Each egg represents a different section of the Easter story and contains a small object that represents that part of the story. As you open each egg to reveal the corresponding object, you read and discuss scripture from that part of the Easter Story. Most Resurrection Egg pre-made kits you can buy will come with a handy guide to walk you through the scriptures and the Easter story.
However, if you’re looking for a cheaper option, or you need the eggs now, you can simply use the printable available in this post. They are super easy to make at home.
Supplies needed for DIY Resurrection Eggs
You don’t need much to create Resurrection Eggs at home. You just need the following:
- Printable Resurrection Egg cards (found at the end of this post)
- Printer and a paper to print on
- 12 plastic Easter eggs
- Sharpie marker
- Scissors
- An empty egg carton (or something to put the eggs in)
How to make your own Resurrection Eggs
Step 1
Print the resurrection egg printable and cut out the small, numbered object cards. You can laminate if you wish, but I think it makes it harder to put the cards in the egg.
Step 2
With the marker, number the eggs, 1-12.
Step 3
Put the cut-out object cards in the egg with the same number.
Step 4
Place the eggs in the egg carton or whatever you have to put the eggs in; a basket is a good option too.
You can also add actual objects to the egg to represent the item on the card if you wish, or add a small treat or prize to each egg for more fun.
If you would like to make a set of Resurrection Eggs with 18 eggs instead of 12, check out this Resurrection Egg Scavenger Hunt.

How to use the printable Resurrection Eggs
Read the Easter Story
Open the eggs, one at a time in numerical order and read through the Easter story with your child, using the full scripture references for more of the story. References for all the gospels are provided; use the one you desire.
Countdown to Easter
Start opening one egg a day, in numerical order, 12 days before Easter. Read the scripture reference for that day. On Easter you should be reading #12 and will have read through the Easter story at that point.
Easter Egg Hunt
Hide all of the eggs and have your child find them. Once you have found all of the eggs you can open them as suggested in number 1 or 2 above.
This printable Resurrection Egg activity offers an excellent opportunity to share the Easter story with kids, refocusing our holiday celebrations on the significance of Christ, what He did on the cross, and His resurrection. All ages will enjoy this activity; make this a new Easter tradition for your family!
