Homemade Mary & Jesus Christmas Ornament for Kids
Supplies:
- Blue and white paper
- Template printed on cardstock
- Scissors
- Two small pieces of blue and white yarn
- Colored pencils
- All-purpose glue
- Hole punch
- Googly eyes (optional)
Directions:
Begin by cutting the white paper in half. Starting at the longer end, accordion fold the entire length of the paper.
Next, starting at the wider end, accordion fold the entire length of the blue paper.
Keeping the accordions folded, fold each paper in half. Glue the joining middle sections of each accordion folded paper together at the bottom. Allow time to dry; you might need to hold it in place with clothespins until it’s set.
Once the glue has dried, take the hole punch and make a hole in the top of the blue fold. Take a piece of blue yarn, feed through the hole and tie. This creates a hanger for the ornament.
Now, squeeze the accordion closed again and tie another string around the paper, making a “neck.” (The big hole right above the “neck” will be the “head” where the face will go.)
Cut off the loose ends. Repeat with the white paper.
Print the template on white cardstock. Cut it out and draw on a face. Add googly eyes, if desired.
Next, fold the tab of each head over and place glue on the top. Then stick the heads inside the openings at the top of the accordions to form the face/head of each ornament. If it doesn’t quite fit, move the yarn at the neck lower and gently make the hole bigger.
Your Mary & Jesus Ornament is complete! Now your kids can have fun decorating the tree with their creations! And if your kids love this Homemade Christmas Ornament Craft, you could totally get creative and use other colors of paper to make the entire nativity scene with all the other people and animals.
