With its easy rhymes and bright colorful pictures, beginning readers enjoy making their way though this book. And ALL kids (whether readers or not), enjoy this hearing this book read aloud.
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish has now sold over 6 million copies across the world – and it’s ranked 13th on the Publishers Weekly All-Time Best Selling Children’s Books list. It’s a nostalgic feeling now to read Dr. Seuss books to my kids, since most of his popular works have been published since the 1960s.
So, it’s easy to see why this craft will be a hit in the classroom, homeschool, or anytime you want to make something new! It’s a perfect story time activity to go along with the book. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Playdough
This playdough is safe for kids of all ages, since it only required food ingredients. My kids had a blast using Swedish Fish along with the playdough, creating scenes and fun story lines. You could definitely incorporate math or language arts into this activity as well to make learning fun.
Supplies
- 12 Large Marshmallows
- 1/2 Cup Corn Starch (May need 3-4 Tbsp more)
- 1 Tbsp Crisco
- 3-4 drops Blue Food Coloring
- 1 Bag Swedish Fish Candy
Directions
Place Marshmallows in a medium size bowl, add ½ cup corn starch to one side and the Crisco on the other side.
Place in microwave for 40 seconds, take out and add 2-3 drops of blue food coloring to the marshmallows. Mix well with a spoon. Continue to mix until all the corn starch is incorporated.
If it’s still a little sticky, add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and start kneading with hands. Continue to knead and add more cornstarch if needed but not too much.
Once completely kneaded, you should have a smooth and shiny playdough.
Roll out and place on Swedish fish. Store this One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish playdough in an airtight baggie for up to one week after making for more fun. Great for any Dr. Seuss party!
