When you use words to describe the typical mother’s day, peace is not one that you’ll often hear. A few common words used to describe a mother’s day are; busy, tiring and full. There are few days in a mother’s life can be described as peaceful. I believe that in order for words like; joy, fulfilling and fun, to be descriptive of a mother’s day that she first must learn to find peace in the midst of her busy, tiring and full days.
It is hard for a mother to imagine actually having time to find peace in her days when she already is balancing too many plates in her full day. The truth is that if every mom would take time to find peace in her day that she would find “more time” to accomplish her daily tasks because she would be less stressed and more productive.
Every mother needs take the following truth to heart.
Finding peace in each day is essential to running a home smoothly and having a joy-filled home.
There are many ways for a mother to find peace in each day, but not every mother will enjoy the same method, so you must carve out a few moments in your day to determine what will help bring it into your day.
4 Steps to Find Peace
- Find a quiet place to spend 10-15 minutes praying and searching your heart
Spend time in prayer asking God to bring to mind what YOU need to find peace in your days. Consider things that you enjoy doing when you do have a few moments to yourself, what you enjoyed doing before having children and new interests you would like to try. Write down 3-5 activities that will help bring the most peace to your every day life, then write down 3-5 activities that can be done outside your home on a girls’ day or night out.
- Begin your day in God’s Word and prayer
You don’t even have to crawl out of bed to find peace at the beginning of your day. Whether you have your Bible or devotional on your nightstand or you use an app on your iPhone, starting your day with peace can be done without getting out from under the covers. If your children are late sleepers consider making a cup of coffee and reading the Bible, praying and writing in your journal to start the day off peacefully in the quiet.
- Add 2 peaceful activities to your daily to-do list
Keep the list of peaceful activities handy at all times and pencil in time for you to enjoy a bit of peace twice a day. You can include your children in these activities or you can have them read or rest during this time. These moments in your day are important, they will be times that you look forward to during your busy day and by taking a break to breathe and enjoy a bit of peace before tackling the rest of the day’s projects.
- Relax before laying down to sleep for the night
It is hard for a mother to slow down her brain at the end of the night, so it is essential that you find something to help you relax before you lay down. Whether you unwind by reading a book, watching TV or taking a hot bath, do your best to relax before trying to get a few hours of sleep each night.
A mother needs to have peaceful moments throughout her day in order to tend to her family and her home properly. If you do not take care of yourself then you will find that peace and joy do not reign in yourself or your home. Finding peace is a step in your day that you can not afford to skip over, it is necessary for your health, your family’s health and the life of your home.
