Roblox is a similar platform to Minecraft. This is an online multi-player game that’s been out since 2006. Most of the games your kids will find on Roblox are user/player created games that are made for other players to enjoy and play together online. As a parent, you may want to know that some games do have shooting and similar mild violence within the games. Players are able to create their own game using Roblox Studios and those games, once created are public. If you have a child interested in Roblox or has been playing this online gaming platform, then you’re probably wondering if Roblox is safe for kids. Today I’m going to dig into this topic for you so that you can make an educated decision as to whether or not you’ll allow your kids to use this gaming platform.
Is Roblox Safe for Kids?
Roblox Parental Controls
While Roblox does have parental controls that you can set up when your kid plays on Roblox, it doesn’t guarantee that your kid won’t see adult content or play violent games. Since all of the games on Roblox are user created, it’s difficult for Roblox to know what content is out there unless the users report inappropriate content or conduct.
No Parental Permission
While I’m more of a fan of phone games and trying to figure out is bingo cash legit, Roblox has continued to make adjustments to their platform to try to make it a safe place for all age children, but commonsense media does recommend this site is best suited for kids ages 10 or older. Many parents don’t like the fact that there is no parental confirmation required when a child sets their Roblox account up. This means any child can happen upon Roblox and sign up, without a parent realizing unless you have some way to track what your kids are doing online.
Multiple Accounts
Roblox doesn’t seem to have any way to block ghost accounts, these are accounts that a kid can set up to have in addition to their main account. This allows kids to have more than one account without their parent even knowing and as you can imagine, makes it more difficult to monitor what your kid is engaging in and seeing on Roblox.
Friends and Profanity
While Roblox tries its best to star out any profanity on their platform, kids have found creative ways to get around that and again, it all comes down to parents needing to be around when their kid is on Roblox to really monitor them. Friend requests can come in, even when you have the parental controls high. While it’s easy to block users and not accept friends, this is a multi-player game where your kid has to play with others, they cannot play games alone.
Like most online game playing platforms for kids, Roblox could be safe for kids if they have parental monitoring and you set rules as well as consequences for not follow said rules. While every kid may find a way to get around the rules that parents put in force to be safe, you can do your best to keep Roblox safe for your kids by having a way to track or log what your kid is doing while they’re online.
