Patriotic slime supplies
For this fun patriotic slime recipe, you’ll need these supplies:
- 6-ounce bottles of Elmer’s Glue – blue, red, white/clear
- 1/2 cup warm water (per batch)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda (per batch)
- 1 tablespoon contact lens solution containing boric acid (per batch)
- White or iridescent glitter (for white slime)
- Red and blue food coloring, if desired
How to make your own slime
Before getting started, make sure to get your supplies ready. This makes things so much easier! You’ll be making three separate batches of slime (one per color) for your patriotic slime.
To begin, empty the first bottle of glue into a large bowl. Pour 1/4 cup of warm water into the empty glue body and seal with the lid; shake well to combine remaining glue with the water. Pour into the bowl and stir to combine.
Add baking soda to the glue mixture and mix well. Stir glitter, food coloring, or confetti, if desired. You want to make sure to do this BEFORE adding the contact lens solution.
Once you’re ready, add the contact lens solution to the glue mixture and mix well. Please note: standard white glue will require less contact solution than glitter glue. Add slowly, mixing between, making sure to only add enough to form the slime into a soft ball.
Remove the slime from the bowl and begin to play with the slime in your hands; stretching or kneading it as you would bread dough until the slime forms. It will be very sticky at first! The slime is ready when it is no longer sticky in your hands.
Repeat these steps for your remaining colors and then you’re ready to play!
When you’re done playing, store in an airtight container in the fridge. Slime will stay good for at least a couple of weeks, oftentimes longer.
