If your child loves their sandwiches to be “crust-free”, these homemade uncrustables will certainly make their day!
I’m always amazed at how picky my kids can be when it comes to the crusts being cut off their sandwiches. Apparently, their taste buds prefer the crust to be nowhere near the rest of the sandwich as it will ruin the overall flavor entirely. Or maybe it’s the texture. Who knows! Luckily for me, these homemade uncrustables were a winner the second that my children saw them, and tasted them. If you have the time to cut off the crust, you can absolutely make your own uncrustables. And not to mention, these homemade ones are way more affordable than the store-bought ones.
I can’t tell you how much I love these sandwiches. They are so crazy simple, and they work perfectly for school lunches, homeschool co-op lunches, field trips, or just as a quick lunch at home. In fact, my kids actually ask for these often because to them, it’s a “perfectly packaged sandwich” full of goodness, without that “yucky” crust. This homemade uncrustable recipe shows no signs of slowing down from being the favorite sandwich recipe in the house! And another nice thing about these homemade uncrustables, is that you can freeze them just like the store-bought ones, making lunch time even easier because you can have a bunch on hand.
Read on to see how to make these simple sandwiches. Instead of buying them, you can make your own!
Ingredients:
- Bread of your choice
- Jelly or Jam of your choice (our favorite is grape)
- Peanut Butter
Directions:
1. On a flat surface, lay down a piece of parchment paper. Lay down 2 slices of bread.
2. On each piece of bread, spread about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter just in the middle – make sure to not spread it to the edge! Spoon a little bit of jelly on top of the peanut butter.
3. Place a slice of bread on top of each piece of bread that has peanut butter and jelly on it.
4. Using a glass that has a thick rim, press down on top of the sandwich hard. Use a knife to cut around the glass, discarding the crusts.
5. To freeze – place the uncrustables gently into a ziploc bag and freeze.
6. To thaw – pull these out for school lunches or snacks – they will defrost in about 20-30 minutes.
See how easy that was?! I suggest making a big freezer batch so you’ll have an easy lunch always at your fingertips. And don’t forget to serve a nice cold glass of milk with them.
