I’d have to say that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. My kids would probably agree. There is just something about breakfast food. We like pretty much all kinds, but I especially love cinnamon rolls and the perfect French toast. And putting them together makes for the perfect breakfast treat. This is a great idea for when you want a little something special for breakfast, like for someone’s birthday or if you have overnight guests.
If you want to turn french toast into a real treat, like dessert, try making some french toast cookies.
Cinnamon Bun French Toast Roll-Ups
Ingredients:
12 slices bread, crusts trimmed
6 Tbls. unsalted butter
4 Tbls. brown sugar
4 Tbls. cinnamon powder, divided
1 Tbls. granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbls. milk
For the cream cheese drizzle:
1 Tbls. unsalted butter
4 Tbls. cream cheese
2 Tbls. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions:
For the cinnamon sugar coating, combine 1 tablespoon of the cinnamon and the granulated sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
For the French Toast batter, combine the eggs, milk, and 1 tablespoon of the cinnamon and set aside.
For the cinnamon filling, combine the butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon in a separate bowl and set aside.
Roll or press each slice of bread until flat and then spread a generous half tablespoon of the cinnamon filling on the bread.
Roll the bread slice short end to short end.
Repeat with all slices of bread, using up all of the cinnamon filling.
Heat a frying pan over medium heat with a bit of butter or oil.
Dip each roll into the French toast batter and place 4-6 at a time in the frying pan, turning after 2 minutes to cook each side.
Meanwhile, whip up the cream cheese drizzle by combining the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until completely incorporated.
Remove to a plate and repeat with the remaining rolls.
Roll in the cinnamon-sugar coating (or sprinkle it on top) and then drizzle the cream cheese on top.
