I can vividly remember reading the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer when I was a child. They were some of my all-time favorite books growing up. So I was thrilled to see that Tommy Nelson has brought Little Critter into the Christian market. Tommy Nelson has just launched Inspired Kids, a new line of faith-based books featuring Little Critter.
The first book in the new line is You Go First, which portrays the scripture Matthew 7:12 – So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. In this book, Little Critter wants to go first or be first in everything he does – go on the swing first, get on the bus first, come in first in a race. He was thinking of himself, rather than thinking of others. Little Critter’s teacher gently reminds him that God says we should treat others the way that we would like to be treated. After a scary incident alone in the woods (where he ended up because he wanted to be first in a scavenger hunt), Little Critter quickly realizes that his teacher, and God, are right.
The second book in the line is It’s True! where Little Critter learns a lesson based on the scripture John 8:32 – Then you will know the truth. And the truth will make you free. After telling some half-truths to his friends, he realizes that not telling the whole truth is really the same as lying. He decides to run away rather than face his friends with the truth. This time Grandpa is the one to help Little Critter learn the message in God’s Word.
These books are a great read for ages 2-7. I enjoyed reading these books with my twin 2-year-olds, my 4-year-old, and my 6-year-old (I even caught my almost 9-year-old listening in). My 4-year-old and 6-year-old especially enjoyed them and after reading them we discussed the lessons that Little Critter learned and applied that to different examples from our life that would be relateable for them.
These books will definitely be read often in our home and I can’t wait to see what lessons Little Critter learns next in the Inspired Kids series.
And now is your chance to win both of these adorable books! Just fill out the form below.
