Finding something that speaks to everyone, on their level, has been helpful to us. We read Arthur Maxwell’s The Bible Story. It has beautiful illustrations to speak to the little ones, but the language is “big” enough for my big kids. 🙂
Discussion works best for us, being sure they are able to ask all their questions.
I purchased a family study bible. We have enjoyed using this for bible time together.
We haven’t really being making it successful. 🙁
I find reading prayer books and short Bible stories helps engage the toddlers in devotional time.
We have family devotions while the girls are having breakfast. We read from the Jesus Storybook Bible and then select prayer sticks (popsicle sticks with the names of family and friends to pray for) and pray together.
I try to find verses that are relevant to what the children are learning, thinking or experiencing at that time. I also, during this time of year, focus on the Passion, death and Resurrection of Jesus in the Gospels.
using scripture in conversation all day. Writing it on a whiteboard, listening to Cd’s that sing scripture int he car
Discussion and participation is the best thing for us
A prayer journal, or asking them to listen to God and the Holy Spirit and write or draw what they think God is saying
The children have to sit and be quiet while I read. They’re young and I know this is hard for them, but they do remember what we’ve read! =)
