No Greater Joy
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 1:4
As a mother for more than two decades, I’ve had my share of heart aches, worries, and fears. Being a mom is not for the faint of heart! And there are times when I’ve wondered if my children would follow Jesus into their adult years.

It’s so important for moms and dads to set a good example on how to live for Jesus daily. Living for Jesus is about more than just attending church once or twice a week. It’s about more than just professing to be a follower of Christ. Our faith should touch every area of our lives and our children should witness our faith being lived out moment by moment.
Worshiping together as a family is one way we can share our faith in a tangible way each day. We began having family worship with our children many years ago when they were still young. Getting to attend worship together not only draws the family closer to Christ, but it also helps draw the family closer together.

Getting Started with Family Worship
Here are a few suggestions on how to get started:
- Assign older children a part in the worship. When my oldest son, who is now 23, was little he loved being in charge of the devotion or Scripture readings or even of assigning his younger siblings a part in the worship experience.
- Mornings are good for a quick devotion around the breakfast table. I like to read from the Bible or from a devotional book after breakfast before everyone leaves the table, followed by prayer.
- Evenings are nice for longer worship times and more activities. In our home, evening worship is usually made up of singing favorite hymns, Scripture reading, devotion, and prayer.
Other ideas for worship time:
- Play Bible charades or a Bible board game.
- Read the Bible Story books.
- Have Bible coloring sheets or activity sheets for the children to color.
- Read mission stories.
- Kneel together and/or hold hands for prayer.
- Ask the children how they shared Jesus’ love during the day.
When your children grow up and leave home, they will take with them cherished memories of family worship with them and look back on those times with joy and fond appreciation.
