One of the hardest parts of pregnancy might very well be the waiting at the end. Waiting and wondering when your little one will arrive. You go to bed each night wondering if perhaps tomorrow will be your baby’s birthday. The uncertainty of when baby will arrive can really take a toll on a full-term pregnant mama. Even if you haven’t past your due date, the unknown can be torturous to some.
You’re big and uncomfortable. You can barely sleep. And you can only eat small amounts of bland food for fear of major heart burn and uncontrollable reflux. You are so ready to meet this little blessing that has been kicking your ribs and dancing on your bladder for the past several months.
You are on high alert for any little sign of impending labor and you may have even scoured the internet for ways that you can contribute to the start of it. But before you go and eat a boat-load of spicy food or down a glass of that nasty castor oil (and yes, it’s nasty), be assured sweet mama that your baby’s birthday has already been decided. You may not know when it will be, but He does.
Take comfort in knowing that He has a plan for you and your baby, and it’s perfect. God chose your baby’s birthday even before he (or she) was conceived.
Try changing your focus from wondering and waiting, to faith and peace in God’s perfect plan. It can become difficult at the end of your pregnancy to keep your focus on Christ, but you must remain diligent and faithful in focusing your attention on Him. Because if you are focused now, you will be better prepared when labor does begin.
Don’t let the enemy steal the joy of these lasts few weeks or days of pregnancy. Feeling those little (or rather big now) kicks and seeing your belly jump around is simply amazing – enjoy it and soak it in; enjoy those last few intimate moments with baby from the inside.
I know you are tired, and I know you are uncomfortable, but you are almost there (you are probably sick of hearing that, right?). Keep your focus on Christ and get as much rest as you can. You will reap your harvest in God’s perfect timing. Rely on His strength to get you through to the end.
Scriptures to pray on:
For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
