I’m just beginning to explore homeschooling with my preschooler and am looking to home school my older boys next year. With my daughter, we try to keep it creative and a bit child led to keep things interesting and to avoid burnout in both of us.

Knowing when their attention span is done is a good way to avoid burnout. There are so many teachable moments throughout the day.
Maureen says
We avoid burn out by getting outside into nature. It makes doing book work, story time etc. much more interesting and the children really focus!

This spring our “school year” ended in mid-March, so we got to start some great new curriculum. It gave us something to look forward to and refreshed our school days.
tammy cordery says
we do art lessons on anything that seems boring.
Joy Ferrell says
We only school 4 days a week, instead of five. Also, we take frequent field trips.
loura says
We take a do school outside on nice days.

We are very new to homeschooling (January). That said, I can always tell when my girl just needs a break. When I notice this, I toss our plans out the window and we take a day. It’s still all about learning, but it’s out of the classroom – usually out of the house! Library Day is a big deal for her, we head to the zoo, the park, the beach (we live on the Eastern Shore) to find what’s happening (far too cold for surf and sand, but not too cold to discover interesting happenings!), etc.

Taking breaks when necessary
SybilT says
Taking a mid-week break helps even if we do it after studying when we go out and just have fun. But spending time in God’s Word and taking stock of things through God’s eyes help me keep things in perspective especially when I start getting stressed 🙂
Sarah D. says
Take it one day at a time.
