Last year, the first thing I tackled with my then preschooler was how to spell her name. She knew some of the letters in her name and would sign her little masterpieces with a few of the letters from her name, in random order.
So, I gathered up as many alphabet manipulatives that I could find and we got to work spelling her name with each of the different kinds of letters we had.
That’s all it took! One morning of doing this and she had the spelling of her name down pat! After all, this is one of the most important and meaningful words in a child’s life at this age.
Plus, we both had lots of fun! And Rachel was so thrilled that she could now spell her name. Just look at that happy face! 🙂
This is so cute. My son has a short first name and has been writing it for a year now but our last name is longer and he doesn’t enjoy writing it as much. This would be such a fun activity to do with him. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Brandi! I like your idea about the last name; I think I’ll teach her that this year!
Love this idea. We are going to do it with first and last names. Thanks so much for the idea.
