Jesus Calling by Sarah Young quickly became my favorite devotional after my mother gave it to me as a gift. Its daily devotions are short, yet profound and encouraging – perfect for me, a busy mom, to fit into my mornings and think on and pray about throughout my day.
I had recently been looking for a devotional to read with my kids in the morning, and since I have enjoyed the Jesus Calling devotional so much, I looked into the Jesus Calling kids edition.
The Lord blessed me a couple of days later with the opportunity from Tommy Nelson, to review Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids – Deluxe Edition, and to bless one of you by giving one away to one of my readers!
The deluxe edition of Jesus Calling for kids is really nice! Its hardcover is leather soft with an adorable blue bird on the cover. And the pages are bold and rich with color.
But the thing I like the most about this devotional is that the daily readings correspond to the adult version, allowing my kids and I to focus on the same scriptures and spiritual themes. When I get up in the morning, I read the daily devotion from my book and then I read the kids one aloud during breakfast time and we discuss the reading together. Although this book is geared toward the tween crowd (ages 7-12), it is easily adaptable to the younger crowd when read aloud and discussed.
The devotional contains a devotion for everyday of the year, with each one beginning with a title and a scripture and ending with a related Bible passage to read on your own.
This new deluxe edition will make a perfect gift for any child in your family this Christmas {I’m getting my niece one!}
My favorite time of the day to have devotional time is the first thing in the morning. It sets the tone for the day. Our hearts and minds are filled with joy and gratitude. The other day my daughter told me she was about to finish her current devotion book. I told her that she could always restart it, but I would love to win this one as a surprise for her this Christmas. We has been moved by writing and applying scripture verses from her devotion book in a journal. Thank you for the chance.
I love having devotions with my kids at night…after baths…before bedtime…when everyone is cozy and getting ready to settle down for the night.
We have devotion time during dinner or lunch. The kids are sitting in one place and their mouths are occupied so they are more focused and paying attention.
My favorite time to have devo time myself is before my son wakes up. I tend to do devos with my son over lunch (he’s too sleepy at breakfast to listen).
I do a devotional with my kids at the beginning of each school day.
We like to do our devotionals during lunch time; it’s a great time to have a captive audience. 🙂
Usually it’s supper time for devotionals around here 🙂
We have devotional time after breakfast and morning chore are done, before we start the other parts of homeschool.
Breakfast
First thing in the morning we pray. We have a Bible verse on the fridge every day. We pray together with that Bible verse in mind. Then in the evening at dinner time, we discuss the verse and how we may have seen it that day. Then before bedtime, we pray together again, thanking God for what he showed us and how he worked in us that day through that verse.
My favorite time of the day is first thing in the morning when we start our school day. It sure goes much better when we do Bible first 🙂
Mornings during breakfast is my favorite time to have a family devotional.
We prefer to do devotions at bedtime!
We do devotions as a family at night before bed.
This is something I really lack in – we’ll start one and then it just doesn’t mesh with our life so I set aside – and it’s hard to find one that gets to the meat of the Bible instead of the milk.
We always have our family devotions right before bedtime.
Night time before bed.
In the evenings before bedtime
When we finish and clean up dinner then its the time to have our devotional time.
School and bedtime.
we do our devotions in the morning. starts our day off right.
