Well, this year is coming to a close. Can you believe it?! Another year has absolutely flown by, so quickly. Well, you know what that means. With another year over, it is time to choose our New Year’s Resolutions for the following year. Every year I like to choose a bunch of different resolutions, and I never seem to be able to keep them. One of those is always to be more organized for the following year. I never used to be able to stick with this goal, that is until last year and you can too! Today I am going to be sharing with you a few tips and tricks that will help you to begin 2016 more organized and stay that way!
Invest in a Planner
I cannot express to you how much my planner has helped with becoming organized. I know what you’re thinking, you can just put your events and tasks into your phone calendar, that is what I used to do too. However, even when I would put things in my phone I still found myself forgetting things until the last minute. Having a planner that I am able to physically write things down in helps me to remember them and I also love the fact that I can cross things off or check them off as I do them. Seeing things written down also helps stir my visual memory. I highly recommend picking up a planner and using it to plan out the week.
Create a Budget
One thing I am horrible at keeping organized is money and bills! A great way to solve this issue is to create a budget. You are able to do this monthly, bi-weekly, or even weekly. All up to you but I find that planning out what to pay when really helps me not only to feel more organized but also helps to manage my money better. I have a Spending Tracker app to help me with this.
Do a Big Cleaning
Having a bunch of clutter in your home really doesn’t help with the organization factor. I recommend doing a bit of winter cleaning and going through the whole house. Get rid of anything you don’t need and that is taking up space; this includes your shoes and closets as well! Take one section of the house at a time (kitchen, bathroom, pets, toys, shoes, etc.) Trust me, you’ll feel so much better without so much buildup and clutter piling up in your home.
Go Through Computer Files
Working primarily online, I have thousands of files stored on my computer, however I do try to semi-keep-up-with-them them on a daily basis. (Yes, I have that many.)
Sort Through Apps
Cleaning up apps I no longer use on my iPhone/iPad always makes me feel more organized.
Clean Up Social Media
Go through your Facebook, Pinterest, and other social media accounts to delete things you no longer enjoy or are no longer necessary.
Buy Organizers for Your Home
In my personal opinion, the biggest thing you need to get organized are containers/products that will help you be organized. I love to use Thirty-One organizers or plastic baskets to organize my drawers and containers to pour my cereals and pastas into. This keeps everything nice and clearly labeled and organized for easy access. The tricky thing is to keep them like that!
Scan Your Photos and Papers
One of the biggest issues a lot of people struggle with is having papers and photos laying around everywhere. To keep these things organized, try to either keep them organized in a file drawer or do what I do! I scan all of my papers and photos into my computer to keep everything organized. This keep everything in order without all the clutter of papers everywhere.
If getting organized is one of your New Year’s Resolutions, or even if it isn’t and you want to go ahead and add that to your list now…be sure to check out these tips and tricks. I know these things have definitely helped me to become a more organized person and I’m sure that they will help you out as well.
