Our Favorite Apps – Science

Description:  I wouldn’t call this app fun, or exciting, but it is a great resource.  As you may have guessed, this is a glossary of scientific terms, as well as short biographies.  This app is geared toward older students, but is a good resource for anyone studying science. 

2.  Science 360 by National Science Foundation

Cost: FREE

Compatibility:  Compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.

Description:  This app provides amazing science and engineering photos and videos from all over the world, on a huge variety of topics.  The videos and photos are fun and engaging, and you can easily save your favorites so they are easy to find in the future.  Keep up to date on scientific discoveries and check back often because new content is added weekly.

3.  Kid Science by Selectsoft

Cost: 2.99

Compatibility:  Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later

Description:  Kid Science has several different topics to offer.  Their science-related apps are:  Biology Experiments, Chemistry Experiments, Nature Experiments, Physics Experiments, Frog Dissection, Worm Dissection, Amazing Human Body, Fish Dissection, Pig Dissection, and Gross Science.  Each app has videos of experiments that you can do at home as well.  There are also quizzes the student can take to see how much they learned.  Each app is $2.99.

4.  Botany, Zoology and Biology by WAGmob

 

Cost: $1.99

Compatibility:  Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later

Description: Choose between Botany, Zoology or Biology to focus on in this app.  Then choose tutorial, quiz, or flash card mode.  Many different subjects covered under each category.  A very nice resource.

5.  Toy Physics by Athos

 

Cost:  $0.99

Compatibility:  Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later

Description:  This app won’t even feel like a learning or science app; it’s more like a game.  Even my husband got hooked on it.

6.  Clever Bird Early Science by Clever Bird, LLC

Compatibility:  Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.

Description:  This is a nice app for younger students.  Lessons include those about Air; Evaporation; Condensation; Rain; Solid, liquid, gas; Heat; Traveler Heat; Freezing; Melting; Traveler Heat; Speed of light; A traveler called sound; Light and heavy; Weight; Density.  Listen to the lessons and then take the quiz.  When you unlock all the lessons, you have the option of buying more.
