Today’s post will contain a list of our favorite apps for preschoolers. Just like with babies and toddlers, sometimes it’s nice to have something to distract your preschooler, yet be educational and fun. This comes in handy during a long car or plane ride or at a restaurant.
1. ABC – Magnetic Alphabet by Dot Next
Cost: $0.99 (when I looked this up, it said it was half price; so the regular price might be $1.99)
Compatibility: Compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
Description: Do you remember those old-fashioned magnetic boards? Well, this is the modern version! This app has letters, numbers, symbols and figures that you can place on the “magnetic” board. It also has many different backgrounds and themes.
There is also a FREE version of this app that only has 26 “magnets” versus the 1002 that come with the paid version.
2. Balloons: Tap and Learn by Zippz Software
Cost: FREE
Compatibility: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later
Description: This app has four different learning modes – colors, numbers, animals, and a bonus game that you unlock by earning gold stars. Just pop the balloon(s) that the game asks for. Easy as that, and earn gold stars to unlock prizes.
There is also a similar game with bubbles that is also free.
You can upgrade to the premium version for $0.99. The premium version contains no advertisements.
3. Shape Puzzle by Newness World
Cost: $0.99
Compatibility: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later
Description: Build different scenes by putting together puzzles that are placed in the scene. There are currently 10 different scenes to build. Each scene contains 15-20 puzzles.
There is also a free version of this game; I believe the difference is that the free version only has 1 or 2 scenes to build. A good way to try it out to see if your kids like it before you purchase.
4. Farm 123 Free by StoryToys Entertainment

Description: This app features 7 different games that teach colors, letters, counting, shapes, sizes, matching, and differences. Easy for a young child navigate because it flows from one game to the next. And you guessed it, it features a cute little monkey and his lunchbox. After several games, the child is awarded with a “sticker.”
Cost: FREE
Compatibility: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
Description: This is simply a memory card game where the child pairs the matching animals. A cute version of Memory, without the hassle of sorting and picking up all the cards.
