A new year has begun!
It's a time of new beginnings, starting over, making changes, setting goals, making resolutions.
I like that the New Year provides a good opportunity for fresh starts, but I've never really been the kind of person to set goals or make resolutions for the year ahead.
Well..... I actually did make resolutions when I was younger, but I was the kind of person that made the resolutions, but never kept them.
So now I just don't make them; why would I want to set myself up to fail?
Several days ago I stumbled upon the One Word community. Instead of making resolutions for the new year, you choose a word that will be your theme and focus for the upcoming year.
Hmmmm, I thought. I was definitely intrigued!
I can handle One Word.
And the Lord immediately showed me what that word would be.
content [kuh n-tent]; adjective - satisfied with what one is or has;
not wanting more or anything else.
Contentment is something I have struggled with for years.
Wanting more, wanting change, wanting different, wanting what she has, wanting to look different, wanting to feel different, wanting the grass greener on my side of the fence......
Several months ago, the Lord really laid it on my heart to focus on being content. If I'm not content, aren't I just saying that God's plans aren't enough, aren't right, aren't perfect?
I am where I am because that is God's will and plan for me. I may not like where I am, or what my circumstance is, but I'm there for a reason, God's reason. And I need to be content in that!
So that is my focus this year.
Contentment.
I will be content.
Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment.
1 Timothy 6:6
Not that I am speaking of being in need,
for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.
Philippians 4:11
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have,
for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Hebrews 13:5
Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him,
and to which God has called him.
1 Corinthians 7:17
Come join in the One Word community! Here is some info to get you started:
Forget New Year’s Resolutions. Scrap that long list of goals you won’t remember three weeks from now anyway. Choose just one word.
One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long.
It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your word will shape you and your year. It will guide your decisions and help you grow.
Discover the big impact one word can make.
One word.
365 days.
A changed life.
